Class 1 is currently our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Class. It is taught from Monday to Wednesday by Mrs Mabbutt and from Wednesday to Friday by Mrs Brazier assisted by our lovely Teaching Assistants Miss Atkins, Mrs Brown and Mrs Street.
In Reception we strive to make every experience memorable and stimulating for all children. We support the children to build on their independence, confidence and knowledge through play.
The EYFS team know and understand that children learn rapidly through rich opportunities, where they explore, investigate and discover. Our topic-based curriculum provides activities that are engaging, meaningful and fun. Whenever possible our planning is guided by the children’s interests’ and questions. We provide many hands-on experiences and with the right balance of challenge and support. Children are actively involved in a range of memorable learning experiences which promote creativity, independence and enjoyment.
Year 1 is an exciting year for children full of fun and learning. The children begin to develop skills that will support them throughout their life such as being independent, how to be a good citizen and friend, as well as having a jam-packed curriculum!
We like to have lots of fun in Year 1, but we also understand the importance of being safe and following the rules.
The phonics screening test is a big focus in Year 1. The children will prepare for this throughout the year by playing games, completing writing and reading activities, group activities, homework and computer games, which they thoroughly enjoy.
Year 2 love working hard and finding out new things.
Over the school year we cover the topics 'where did I come from? Who am I? Where am I now? and 'Where am I going?'.
At the end of the school year, we show off everything we have learnt in Key Stage 1 and are ready to start Key Stage 2 in the new school year.
